Getting Ready for Sunday, April 22nd 2018

On Easter Sunday we proclaimed “He is risen!” and each Sunday is resurrection Sunday as well. And currently we’re walking through chapter 15 of Paul’s first letter to the Corinthian church in a little series of sermons we’re calling The Death of Death. This week brings us to the “title track” focusing on verses 20-28.

We’ll affirm our faith with the ancient and beautiful words of the Apostles’ Creed.

We’ll celebrate the baptism of Micah Jumper @ 10:45aBaptism is one of two Sacraments we observe at New City (the other being the Lord’s Supper) and it is a sign and seal of the covenant of grace, a picture of what God has done for us in Jesus Christ, and also a picture of the community that God is forming. You’ll see two kinds of baptisms at New City. Adults who place their faith in Christ come to baptism as an expression of their faith and as a sign of their entrance and participation in the covenant community. Children of believing adults are also eligible for baptism. For a child, baptism conveys the grace of being included in God’s covenant community and acts as an engagement to be the Lord’s. In neither case does baptism save a person. We are saved by grace through faith. Adult baptism reflects back to the work of Christ in bringing one to faith, and infant baptism looks forward to a day when a child can embrace the gospel by faith.

Each Sunday we celebrate the Lord’s Supper together. It points us to Christ’s death for us in the past, his present work feeding our souls, and our future hope in the kingdom of God.

Here are the songs we will be singing:

Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee, Rejoice, Psalm 136 (Your Mercy Endures), Death in His Grave, Mighty God We Thank and Praise You, The Lamb Has Overcome, New Again.

Listen on Spotify or Youtube or click on the individual links above. Take a listen and be familiar with the songs so you’ll be ready to sing come Sunday morning.

We meet each Sunday at 9a & 10:45a for worship at the church building at the corner of Floral and Washington, 4400 Floral Ave., 45212Please sit toward the front of the sanctuary and toward the center of the rows so that folks can grab seats as they make their way in.
