The City

As community groups wind down for the year, let’s not give up meeting together! Consider connecting to one of these opportunities for learning and community this summer!

Do you love to read? Join New City’s officially unofficial book club, Books & Crannies, as we read and discuss a new book each month.  For our June meeting, we’ll be reading and discussing Hidden Figures at Mary & Jerry’s beautifully botanical home.  Details can be found in the Books & Crannies group on The City—request to join the group, or shoot a message to Jennifer Cronk.  Come once, or come every time—we’re happy to learn and imagine with you!

Mondays @ 7p starting June 9th w/ a week off in July w/ Chaz & Karina Rice

Financial Peace University is a nine lesson money class that will teach you step-by-step God’s ways of handling your finances. The class does this by teaching how to create a budget, pay off debt, spend wisely, save for the future, give generously and so much more.

The course is $93.00 (couples can share) and is good for any future FPU classes you wish to take (lifetime membership).

Sign up for the class one of two ways: 1. Buy the materials (or reuse the FPU materials you already have) and let us know or 2. sign up online and purchase materials at the same time. This class is on the Dave Ramsey calendar and is open to others in the Cincy area, so invite your friends and neighbors too! The deadline to register is June 12.

Do you have a crazy work schedule? Do you long for a community? Well, we’d love to connect with you! SAVE THE DATE SAT JUNE 10th! This summer, we’d like to invite you and your family to gather once a month with other New City medical folks to share a meal and enjoy a little fellowship! This is a casual time for medical families to encourage (and commiserate with) one another.

We will likely cater Chick-Fil-A or order pizza and have families chip in. Please come join us! Come late, or leave early – we completely understand if you can’t stay the whole time! Questions or ideas can be directed to Grace Wu (513) 315-2360.

Wednesday mornings 6:30-7:30a starting June 21st for 7 weeks @ the Coffee Emporium in Hyde Park w/ Ryan Zhang $8

The name of our church is New City, and in the book of Nehemiah we see a movement to build a renewed city.  After the destruction of Jerusalem in 586 B.C., Nehemiah and a group of civic leaders led the effort to bring renewal to the ancient city.  Yet it was a campaign that eventually ended in failure.  What are the qualities of a good leader?  What made their city renewal possible?  What eventually went wrong?  And how should a faithful leader respond to failures?  Join us in learning some hard lessons from a study of Nehemiah.

Mondays 7-8:30p June 19th, July 10th, & August 14th @ the church building w/ Josh Reitano

Lots of us have benefited from the writing of C.S. Lewis over the years. His space trilogy is one of his least read and most obscure, yet undeniably brilliant creations. This summer we’re going to read all 3 novels (1 per month). Then we’re going to get together and discuss them. Meetings will be once per month on Monday nights, 7pm at the church building. Josh will start off with 15-20 minutes of teaching, teasing out some major themes and the ways they apply to Scripture and our current cultural position. Then we’ll spend the next hour discussing various aspects of the novels. Ideally participants would come to all 3 meetings, but you could also dip and out for 1-2 of the sessions.

WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDYRuth, Esther, and the God Who Hears His People

Thursdays 7p @ the Murrish’s, June 8th – August 3rd w/ Abigail Murrish & Courtney Kaufmann, $8 on Amazon

Ruth and Esther record the stories of two of the Bible’s most memorable women. We see the story of a vulnerable woman searching for a home and the story a queen called to pursue justice and peace in a time of crisis. As we study Ruth and Esther, our eyes are turned to the God who hears the cries and knows the longings of his people, and who faithfully acts on their behalf.

Join us as we study these two books, understand their place in the story of Scripture and discuss how they apply to our daily lives. Our study will also include time for prayer.

WOMEN’S MORNING BIBLE STUDYKnow the Bible: The Book of Acts

Friday mornings 6-7a for 12 weeks starting June 2nd w/ Angelica Schimitter @ her home, $8 on Amazon

The book of Acts chronicles some of the most important events in Christian history: the coming of the Holy Spirit, the birth of the early church, the scattering of Jesus’s disciples across the known world, and more.

This guide explains the biblical text with clarity and passion—helping us understand the history-shaping events that took place in the years following Christ’s resurrection and ascension.

Over the course of 12 weeks, these studies explore books of the Bible and:

  • Ask thoughtful questions to spur discussion

  • Show how each passage unveils the gospel

  • Tie the text in with the whole story of Scripture

  • Illuminate the doctrines taught in each passage

  • Invite you to discover practical implications

  • Help you better understand and apply God’s Word

WOMEN’S EVENING BIBLE STUDYBecoming a Woman Whose God is Enough

Wednesday evenings (May 31st-August 16th; July 4th week off) @ the LaJeunnesses’ w/ Paige Reitano & Grace Wu

Becoming a Woman Whose God is Enough by Cynthia Heald is an 11 week Bible study focusing on the all-sufficiency of Christ. If you struggle with contentment or desire rich fellowship with the Lord, come join us as we seek to be satisfied by God alone. He is enough! Purchase your own books HERE or text Grace Wu (513) 315-2360 for help with ordering a book.

Every other Wednesday evening 7p @ the Previtera’s w/ Michael Previtera $12

A seven week study thinking through the integration of the work God has called you to do (literally your Monday through Friday “job") AND his mission to redeem the world.

We’ll be using a brand new study by CCO staffer Bob Robinson called “Reintegrate Your Vocation with God’s Mission.”

7p Thursday, June 29th & Wednesday, July 26th. Evening worship gatherings focused on Scripture and prayer.

Although we are just winding down from 2016-2017, community group LAUNCH for next year is the week of September 19th!
