Getting Ready for Sunday, April 29th 2018

This week we are continuing our little series of sermons we’re calling The Death of Death which is taking us through chapter 15 of the apostle Paul’s first letter to the church at Corinth. This week we’ll home in on verses 35-39.

We’ll affirm our faith with question 1 of the Heidelberg Catechism which reads as follows: What is your only comfort in life and death? My only comfort in life and in death is that I am not my own, but belong in body and soul, in life and in death – to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood, and he has set me free from the tyranny of the devil.   He also watches over me in such a way that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven: in fact, all things must work together for my salvation. Because I belong to him, Christ, by his Holy Spirit, assures me of eternal life and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for him.

Each Sunday we celebrate the Lord’s Supper together. It points us to Christ’s death for us in the past, his present work feeding our souls, and our future hope in the kingdom of God.
